We care about trees. Like, really care about them!
Family Owned Since 2015
I began my career in the tree care industry while studying forest biology at Colorado State University. I graduated with a focus on plant physiology and pathology. Dismayed and discouraged at the lack of prospects in academia and government research, I realized that if I wanted to pursue my passion of working WITH trees rather than in an office, I would need to move into private industry, where I could actually put my hands on trees.
I began working for a Fort Collins-based tree company as their plant healthcare technician, but I constantly crossed ethical boundaries because of how the industry uses pesticides. I shifted my focus to training to be a tree climber and arborist.
My wife and I moved to Boulder, and I began subcontracting as a climber for several local tree companies. I began to recognize that much of the local pruning used outdated standards and techniques developed for other regions of the country. I started creating my own personal style, technique, and approach, grounded in science and plant physiology.
I knew that, with my educational background and climbing skill set, I had the foundation to provide science-based tree care, working to guide and promote tree health and resilience in balance with Colorado’s unique environment and climate, and I began advertising my services to the public.
Over the years, Roots and Shoots Tree Care has evolved into a small but sustainable business that focuses on respect for trees, clients, the environment, and our team.
